Introducing Wells Gray Provincial Park
Wells Gray Park is known as the Waterfall Park,
and a large wilderness park in British Columbia
(the fourth highest falls in Canada).
It offers both unlimited wilderness, and easily accessible waterfalls,
wildflower trails, ski trails and lakes for canoeing.
Spahats Falls is a mere 10 minute drive on the way to Wells Gray
where you will see Majestic Helmcken Falls (pictured here)
480 feet high. Dawson Falls is a cascade of Water across
the Murtle River as it rushes to join the Clearwater just after
it drops over the Helmcken precipice.
Location
Wells Gray is located north of highway 5 between Jasper and
Kamloops, near the town of Clearwater.
Most visitors enter the park via Clearwater, where there is an
excellent information center for the park.
Two other access roads enter the park: from the town of Blue River
west to Murtle Lake, and from the town of 100 Mile House east to
Mahood Lake.
What can I do in Wells gray Park?
Canoeing
Wells Gray boasts fabulous canoeing opportunities, with five large wilderness lakes in a beautiful mountain setting. The canoeing here is among the best in western Canada, for day trips or multi-day expeditions.
Wildflower Walks
The alpine trails in the south of the park offer spectacular views and, in late summer, breathtakingly beautiful wildflower meadows.
Short Nature Walks
The park has many short trails exploring old-growth forests, pioneer homesteads, old volcanoes, canyons and more.
And Much More...
Many other guided activities, such as horseback riding and river rafting, are also offered in and around Wells Gray. |
